Marathon, FL

Placencia is a small village with a sidewalk that is one mile long.   All along the sidewalk are cottages, guest houses, restaurants and shops.   It is like the main street in town, without cars, golf carts and mopeds.  No cruise ships, but tourist come here to dive the beautiful reefs nearby.

Middle Long Cay, we spent two nights here, due to storms, then headed to Placencia

There was one home, that we could see. It rained and squalled the whole time we were here.

Onward bound to Placencia....Sonny on the bow

Kay, with the mountains in the background.

On the bow of Valentina, it was a calm sail. We played with the camera a lot.

Resting on the staysail boom

A calm crossing within the reef

Mountains!

This was our first view of mountains by sailboat

Sailing with all three sails up

On our way to another beautiful place

I can see some mountains through the clouds

On the bow, from Middle Long Cay to Placencia

Placencia...........at last! We anchored in front of the Moorings chartered catamarans.

The Sidewalk....lined with beautiful flowers, we even found orchids

Sonny is walking along the mile long sidewalk

A different kind of palm tree. Very pretty.

We stopped for a rest under this palapa while walking

Sitting at the beach after a walk, enjoying the breeze

These children came by to sell necklaces for their school tuition

Of course, we bought something from each of them

Sonny walking the beach

Bright colored little houses, we could live here.

We feel right at home with all of these tiny cottages

Time to cool off....

Cottage along the canal, very pretty

Kay on the beach at De Tatch restaurant

A De Tatch restaurant, a palapa restaurant. Cool breeze

The restrooms said, "Ladies.....and Others"

Kay with our waitress

Bugle Cay, an island 5 miles away, with a working lighthouse, that we visited via dinghy. We snorkeled on the other side of the island.

Castro, the lighthouse keeper, on Bugle Cay

Castro was going to cut down two coconuts for us.

He got a long pvc pipe and a big machette

Sonny caught the coconuts as they dropped

Castro cut the outside of the coconut at the top, so we could drink the liquid inside

Sonny is tasting the coconut milk

Kay is tasting hers, also

What a way to end the day. We are very thankful.
